Prof. Xiumei MO

Title: Electrospun organic and inorganic nanofiber for soft and hard Tissue Engineering
Prof. Xiumei MO is a professor of Biomaterials in Donghua University. She once had two years Postdoc experience in Kyoto University, three years research fellow experience in National University of Singapore, one year visiting professor experience in Aachen University of Applied Science and Technology. Her main research work is electrospinning nanofiber and nanoyarn for different tissue regeneration, including skin, tendon, nerve, blood vessel, bone and cartilage tissue regeneration. She also do hydrogel research and 3D printing scaffolds. She was granted 100 projects related with nanofiber fabrication for different tissue regeneration and hydrogel as tissue adhesive. She has published more than 473 papers, the papers were cited more than 18,388 times, her H-index is 78. She edited 11 books/chapters, ISI Web of Science showed that she ranking No.7 in the world on electrospun nanofiber publication. She got the Science Technical Invention Awards from Shanghai Municipality in 2008, Science and Technology Progress Awards from State Department of People’s Republic of China in 2009, Nature Science Awards from Shanghai Government in 2015, and Science Technical Invention Awards from China National Textile Industry Council in 2022. She is the Committee Members of China Biomaterials Society as well as Biomedical Engineering Society Biomaterials Branch. She is also Vice Chairman of China Composite Materials Society Super-fine Fiber Branch.
Prof. Xiangyang Shi

Title: Phosphorous dendrimer-based protein delivery systems for synergistic therapy of brain diseases
Xiangyang Shi is currently a professor and serves as the Vice Dean of the College of Biological Science and Medical Engineering, Donghua University. Prof. Xiangyang Shi graduated with B.Sc. (chemistry, Henan Normal University, Xinxiang), M.E. (applied chemistry, Beijing Institute of Technology, Beijing), and Ph.D. (organic chemistry, Institute of Photographic Chemistry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing) in 1992, 1995 and 1998, respectively. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow in Tsinghua University (1998-2000, Beijing) and Max-Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces (2000-2001, Potsdam, Germany). He then moved to California State University, Los Angeles (2001-2002) as a visiting scholar. From 2002-2008, he worked as a Research Fellow, Research Associate II, Research Investigator, and Research Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. He then became a professor of special appointment both in Donghua University and in Shanghai Institutions of High Learning (Eastern Scholar) since 2008. Since 2010 he is also appointed as an “Invited Chair in Nanotechnology” at University of Madeira, Portugal. Prof. Shi has authored or coauthored 545 SCI-indexed peer-reviewed journal articles with an H-index of 90 (total citation 30135 times) and 365 technical conference abstracts or proceeding papers, along with 17 invited book chapters and 151 approved patents. His current research interests are focused on the development of organic/inorganic hybrid nanoplatforms and microfluidic platforms for sensing, imaging, and theranostic applications, in particular for precision imaging and therapy of cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Prof. Mohsen Akbari

Title: Health equity through innovations in tissue engineering for affordable therapeutics
Dr. Mohsen Akbari is an Associate Professor of Mechanical Engineering, the Director of the Laboratory for Innovations in Microengineering (LiME) at the University of Victoria, an Affiliated Associate Professor at the School of Biomedical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, adjunct professor at Terasaki Institute for Biomedical Innovation and Department of Bioengineering at University of California-Riverside. In addition to his professorship, he is a senior board member at the Canadian Biomaterials Society, board member at the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, member of the Center for Advanced Materials and Related Technologies (CAMTEC), investigator at International Collaboration on Repair Discoveries (ICORD), Associate Member of Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health, the co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer at 4M Biotech, and Scientific Advisor at Apricell Biotech. Dr. Akbari obtained his Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University and received postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is the recipient of several awards and recognitions, including the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering Emerging Technology Award Keston Award, membership of the College of New Scholars at the Royal Society of Canada, Lifetime Fellow of the International Association for Advanced Materials (IAAM), Scientist Medal from IAAM, Faculty of Engineering Teaching Excellence Award, Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research Idea to Commercialization Award, NSERC Postdoctoral Fellowship Award, BC Innovation Council Research Award, Kaiser Foundation Award, and recognized as a Canadian Rising Star in Global Health by Grand Challenges Canada. Dr. Akbari is on the editorial board of Biofabrication, International Journal of Bioprinting, Micromachines and Gels. He is also member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Biomaterials Society. His research findings have been published in 140 peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters with an h-index of 50 and over 12,000- citations. His work has been featured on the cover of 12 Journals and reported in +70 media outlets such as CBC News, Time Colonist, BBC News, Google News, Science Daily, The Telegraph, Fortune, and NSERC website.
Prof. Hongbo Zhang

Title: Biomimetic Materials for Target Drug Delivery
Hongbo Zhang is currently serving as a tenured full Professor at Åbo Akademi University in Finland. He is also the director of Biomaterials and Medical Device research program. He is a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry. He has made a series of innovative achievements in the fields of microfluidics, nanomedicine, targeted drug delivery, large molecule drug loading, and biopharmaceuticals. With a rich interdisciplinary research background encompassing biopharmaceuticals, cell and molecular biology, chemistry, physics, and engineering, he possesses expertise in international-standard microfluidics, nanocarrier drug delivery, and biopharmaceutical technologies. As corresponding author, Hongbo Zhang has published over 100 international papers in prestigious journals, including Science Advances, Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, PNAS, and Cell Reports. His publications have been cited over 14000 times according to Google Scholar, and his h-index is 67. He also has 10+ international and national patents. Hongbo Zhang serves as the Executive Chief Editor of the journal "Smart Medicine" (Wiley), and also holds the position of Associate Editor for "Research" and "Engineered Regeneration" journals. Additionally, he serves as a reviewer for many international grants, e.g. ERC starting grant, Swiss National Science Foundation, French National Research Agency, etc.
Dr. Anka G. Ehrhardt

Dr. Ehrhardt is an industry leading scientist and strategist. By training, Dr. Ehrhardt is a biophysicist with a Ph.D. in human physiology. Throughout her career, she focused on driving biomedical research through efficient application of innovative strategies. She built and led highly successful teams in industry driving project support for major filings of blockbuster small molecules and biologics. At Merck, she headed a laboratory providing leading technologies for cell-based research from early discovery through manufacturing. At BMS, Dr. Ehrhardt led and grew an international clinical assay team to robustly cover large scale registrational and translational clinical analysis generating clinical decision-driving data and mechanistic insights for studies across disease areas. Recently, Dr. Ehrhardt fulfilled one of her scientific aspirations at CHDI Foundation, designing and implementing successful clinical biomarker strategies for Huntington’s disease. Currently, at Merck, Dr. Ehrhardt is providing strategic and technical leadership for the development and implementation of industry-leading QC-friendly assays and models for potency determination that reflect the unique mechanisms of biologics products supporting clinical studies and manufacturing.
Prof. Haider Butt

Prof. Haider Butt did his M.Phil. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2008, followed by a PhD in Nanophotonics in 2012. From 2013 to 2019, he served as Assistant / Associate Professor of Nanotechnology at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Birmingham, UK. He joined Khalifa University’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2019 and was promoted to Full Professor in 2023. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals including Nature Communications, Advanced Materials, Biotechnology Advances, Light Science and Applications, and ACS Nano. He has earned international recognition for his research and leadership in optical sensors, where he has contributed to nanoscale devices by conceiving novel holographic lithography methods to produce optical transducers. His most pioneering works include glucose sensing contact lenses, contact lenses for color blind patients, and carbon nanotube holograms. Dr. Butt is a Chartered Engineer by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, London, UK. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and holds life fellowships of the Cambridge Philosophical Society, Hughes Hall College (University of Cambridge), and Wolfson College (University of Cambridge).
Prof. Thomas J Webster

Thomas J. Webster’s (H index: 129) degrees are in chemical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh (B.S., 1995; USA) and in biomedical engineering from RPI (Ph.D., 2000; USA). He has formed over a dozen companies who have numerous FDA approved medical products currently improving human health in over 30,000 patients. His technology is also being used in commercial products to improve sustainability and renewable energy. He is currently helping those companies and serves as a professor at Brown University, Saveetha University, Hebei University of Technology, UFPI, and others. Dr. Webster has numerous awards including: 2020, World Top 2% Scientist by Citations (PLOS); 2020, SCOPUS Highly Cited Research (Top 1% Materials Science and Mixed Fields); 2021, Clarivate Top 0.1% Most Influential Researchers (Pharmacology and Toxicology); 2022, Best Materials Science Scientist by Citations (Research.com); and is a fellow of over 8 societies. Prof. Webster is a former President of the U.S. Society for Biomaterials and has over 1,350 publications to his credit with over 55,000 citations. He was recently nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. Prof. Webster also recently formed a fund to support Nigerian student research opportunities in the U.S.

He has served as a Tenured Professor and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Chief Physician at Peking University (1993-2023) and Tsinghua University (2023-), and has fulfilled transformations of scientific research achievements to 3 companies.
Prof. Yu’s research mainly focus on stem cell drugs and tissue engineering products in the diagnosis and treatment of knee joint injuries, as well as the intervention of nanomaterials, functional small molecules, microenvironment and cell subpopulations in tissue regeneration, bioinformatics characteristics and multi-omics related molecular mechanisms. He also interested in molecular classification, susceptibility genes, gene diagnosis and AI-assisted diagnosis and treatment decision of knee joint injuries, personalized minimally invasive surgical repair and reconstruction of articular cartilage injury, meniscus injury, ligament rupture and patellofemoral joint disorder, and related medical equipment products, preoperative planning and navigation software products and surgical robots. Prof. Yu pay more attentions on knee osteoarthritis (KOA), include the Tsinghua University Tiantongyuan Natural Population Cohort Study of knee osteoarthritis. And also graded diagnosis of knee osteoarthritis, five steps of rehabilitation, drugs, arthroscopy, osteotomy and partial replacement for knee preservation, and personalized minimally invasive total knee replacement. Also research on artificial intelligence assisted diagnosis, preoperative planning and intraoperative navigation software, surgical robots and remote intelligent rehabilitation about the KOA.
6 class III medical device registration certificates were approved by the National Medical Products Administration successfully from Jia-Kuo Yu ‘s transformed scientific research achievements and one of them was the innovative class III medical device registration certificate. Two class II medical device registration certificates were approved by the Beijing Medical Products Administration successfully from Jia-Kuo Yu ‘s transformed scientific research achievements and one of them was the innovative class II medical device registration certificate. All of them are widely used in clinical practice currently.
Dr. Jia-Kuo Yu has published 214 articles,among them 114 were published in SCI journals,some awards among them including: 2020 (1 publication), 2023 (2 publications) and 2024(2 publications) ESI Highly Cited Research (Top 1% Materials Science and Mixed Fields).
Jia-Kuo Yu providing sports injury diagnosis and therapy services for Athletes in sports teams and ordinary patients for 41 years, engaged in medical-engineering cross researches for 37 years, and carried out medical and enterprise cooperation to promote industrialization of medical devices for 20 years.
Jia-Kuo Yu is the founding chairman of the geriatric sports medicine branch of the Chinese Society of Gerology and Geriatrics and a medical expert of the national sports team for Summer and Winter Olympic Games. He is also Vice Presidents and Vice Chairmans of 7 Societies.
